CFS empowers young minds through its holistic school engagement initiatives

In a pursuit to foster an inclusive educational journey and nurture young minds, UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised a series of successful initiatives aimed at engaging school students in the local community.

Through a diverse range of projects, CFS carried out engaging activities to enrich the learning experiences of young minds in Perak, empowering them with valuable skills and knowledge that extend beyond traditional classroom boundaries.

Aimed at laying a solid foundation for the students’ English language proficiency and communication skills, CFS Kampar Campus hosted a vibrant school engagement project titled Adventure in Word: Exploring English Together for 48 students ranging from Standard 1 to Standard 6 at SJK(T) Kinta Valley.

Held on 22 and 23 April 2024, the project was designed to familiarise students with basic grammar principles, sentence construction, and language usage, while developing their abilities to organise thoughts and express themselves coherently and confidently in English.

The event started with an inspiring speech from the Project Coordinator, Ms Devagi Erusan, who emphasised the importance of exploring English at a young age for children’s language development and future academic success. She said, “Introducing English to young learners not only nurtures their language proficiency but also fosters cognitive growth and cultural awareness.”

Following this, Ms Devagi, along with CFS Kampar Campus academics Ms Kanimozhi Govindasamy, Ms Tulasi Subramaniam and Ms Yuvashini Salvamani, assisted by 10 UTAR students, conducted a series of engaging, comprehensible and interactive lessons and activities, including games, music, storytelling, role-playing, and essay writing.

By the end of the project, the students exhibited an enhanced grasp of grammar principles and demonstrated the ability to compose simple yet structured essays with relevant content.
