Research seminar on finance and economics

The Centre for Economic Studies (CES) and the Centre for Accounting, Banking & Finance (CABF), parked under the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF), jointly organised a seminar titled “Research Seminar on Finance and Economics” on 2 May 2024 at UTAR Kampar Campus.

Invited to deliver the talk were President of the Malaysian Finance Association Prof Dr Hooy Chee Wooi from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Management and Prof Dr Wong Woei Chyuan from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) College of Business.

The seminar was designed to offer detailed insights and practical strategies related to journal publication, covering specific areas such as climate green finance and economics, corporate finance, corporate governance, and institutions. Additionally, it served as a platform for knowledge exchange and a catalyst for future research collaborations.

The seminar commenced with a warm welcome from Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, the Vice President of Student Development and Alumni Relations at UTAR. Attendees included FBF Dean Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, CES Chairperson Dr Chen Fanyu, CABF Chairperson Dr William Choo Keng Soon, as well as other academics, staff and students.

Prof Hooy began his presentation by outlining the effective strategies for publishing research articles in top international journals. He also highlighted various research areas within finance and economics, such as asset pricing, investment, corporate finance and housing prices. Additionally, he advised researchers to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the publication process efficiently and to stay informed about emerging trends in the field. He also emphasised the importance of fostering discussion and collaboration in key areas of finance and economics research.

Prof Wong’s presentation, on the other hand, delved into research in real estate finance. He emphasised the significance of various research areas within the field and the crucial role of data in generating impactful research. Additionally, he introduced DataSense, a tool designed to enhance real estate research in Malaysia. At the end of his session, Prof Wong expressed his hope that participants would gain new insights and a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of finance and economics research.

The seminar concluded with an insightful Q&A and a group photograph session.
