UTAR renews MoU and signs SEA with Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, China

UTAR renewed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and signed a student exchange agreement (SEA) with Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (ZCMU), China on 13 May 2024 at its Sungai Long Campus. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and ZCMU Vice Secretary of the Party Committee Prof Dr Zhang Guangji.

The MoU outlined a collaborative framework between the involved parties for various academic initiatives. It encompassed joint international research projects, talent training programmes, and academic exchanges aimed at fostering mutual development. Additionally, the MoU aimed to enhance student learning experiences through student mobility programmes and undergraduate internships.

Also present at the event were ZCMU School of Basic Medical Sciences Dean Prof Dr Zhu Aisong, School of Life Sciences Dean Prof Dr Dou Xiaobing, School of Nursing Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Yang Yeqin, International Relations Office Director Assoc Prof Dr Wang Ying and Student Affairs Department Deputy Director Assoc Prof Dr Hu Jie.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “Since we signed a memorandum of agreement with Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2015, our cooperation has been close and fruitful. Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as our important partner in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, has provided us with valuable support and help. The first batch of students from the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of our school successfully graduated in 2016, thanks to the strong support of Zhejiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.”

He concluded, “Today, we once again join hands to sign a memorandum of understanding and a student exchange agreement. This signing ceremony is not only an affirmation of our past cooperation, but also a sign that our cooperation has entered a new stage.”

Prof Zhang expressed, “We established a partnership, as early as 2015, to carry out student exchange and other projects. Both universities have maintained good interaction over the years. Even during the pendemic, our online communication was not interrupted. On behalf of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, I would like to express my sincere greetings and heartfelt thanks to all delegates who have worked hard to promote and maintain the long-term cooperation between the two universities.”

He added, “This year also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. Under such a good form and background, I sincerely hope that we can further deepen our understanding of each other and achieve broader cooperation in various fields through this event.”
