In a move set to bolster student career readiness
through immersive industry exposure, UTAR signed a memorandum of
understanding (MoU) with Marrybrown Sdn Bhd, Malaysia’s leading halal
fast-food chain, on 25 October 2024 at its Sungai Long Campus. The ceremony
marked a significant step in fostering deeper connections between academia
and industry.
The event was graced by prominent figures from both
organisations, with UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and
Marrybrown CEO Mr Daniel Chan officiating the MoU signing. Prof Dato’ Ewe,
speaking on behalf of UTAR, underscored the partnership’s potential to
provide students with invaluable industry insights. He remarked, “This
collaboration goes beyond academia; it brings industry insights directly to
our students, preparing them for Malaysia’s fast-evolving job market.”
In his address, Mr Chan emphasised the impact of the
MoU on both the academic and corporate sectors, stating, “Today’s MoU
signing is more than just a formal agreement; this partnership allows us to
collaborate in ways that will benefit both the academic and industry
sectors, creating a meaningful opportunity for the students, professionals,
and corporate community.”
Present from UTAR were Dr Pok Wei Fong, Dean of the
Faculty of Accountancy and Management; Assoc Prof Ir Dr Lim Jee Hock, Acting
Director of the Division of Programme Promotion; Ms Lim Guat Yen, Director
of the Centre for Corporate and Community Development; Assoc Prof Dr Lai
Soon Onn, Director of the Office of International Affairs (OIA); Ms
Catherine Jok Wan, Senior Assistant Manager of the Department of Alumni
Relations and Ms Wang Yiling, Assistant Manager of OIA.
Representing Marrybrown, alongside Mr Chan, was Mr
Muhammad Raihan bin Mohaidin, the Human Resource Manager, Mr Jerry Yeong,
Training Manager, Ms Shazana Yeoh, Corporate Community Manager, Ms Mazlinda
binti Mahamad Yunus, Senior Training Administration Executive; and Ms
Amsavalli Ramasamy, Training Assistant.
Following the official signing, Prof Dato’ Ewe and Mr
Chan exchanged souvenirs in a gesture symbolising the beginning of a
promising alliance. The event concluded with a group photo session,
capturing the collaborative spirit that will drive this new partnership
forward.
This MoU signing ceremony was built upon an initial
visit by Marrybrown to UTAR on 2 May 2024, where early discussions set the
groundwork for the partnership. The ongoing engagement between both
organisations reflects a shared commitment to preparing students for
industry demands, equipping them with the skills and knowledge essential for
Malaysia’s dynamic job market.
