UTAR student-athletes delivered outstanding
performances at the Sukan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (SUKIPT) 2024,
competing in a range of sports and bringing home a commendable number of
medals. The competition, hosted at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) from 5 to
14 September 2024, saw UTAR’s athletes competing fiercely, showcasing
resilience, teamwork, and skills.
The table tennis team marked a significant
achievement, securing both a gold medal in Mixed Doubles and a bronze medal
in Men’s Doubles. Players Too Ying Chuen and Yeap Shevon triumphed in the
Mixed Doubles category, while Wong Jenn Jia and Chua Jin Hui took home the
bronze in Men’s Doubles, underscoring the team’s competitive prowess and
dedication.
In chess, Yeoh Yuan Hui earned the bronze medal in
the Men’s Individual category, further showcasing UTAR’s intellectual and
strategic capabilities among top competitors nationwide. The taekwondo team
also made its mark, with the women’s team winning bronze in the Poomsae
category, highlighting the athletes’ discipline and skill in martial arts.
While other sports, including badminton, basketball,
volleyball, track and field, and karate, saw UTAR teams advancing through
group and elimination rounds, they ultimately faced strong competitors.
Nevertheless, their participation added valuable experience and bolstered
UTAR’s spirit of sportsmanship and determination.
UTAR’s impressive results at SUKIPT 2024 reflect the
University’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel both
academically and athletically. The student-athletes’ efforts not only bring
pride to UTAR but also inspire their peers, reinforcing the University’s
reputation in competitive sports and its dedication to holistic student
development.
