Delegation from Jilin province visited UTAR on
1 November 2024 to advance collaborative initiatives in education and
cultural exchange. The event, held at UTAR Sungai Long Campus, served as a
platform for meaningful discussions on international academic partnerships,
with leaders from both institutions underscoring a shared commitment to
fostering cross-cultural understanding.
The
Jilin Province Cultural Delegation was led by Mr Wu Yuedong, Deputy
Minister of the Jilin Provincial Publicity Department, and included senior
representatives such as Ms Jiang Meishan, Mr Wang Xing, Ms Zhang Peng, Mr
Sun Chang, and Jilin University’s representative, Prof Dr Zhang Siqi. Their
presence highlighted Jilin’s dedication to building strong educational
alliances abroad.
Also present were Datin Seri Zhou Xingchen,
President of the Malaysia Ecolinguistic Association, Ms Kae Wong, CEO of
Sunshine Learning Center Sdn Bhd and Ms Chee Bee Ean, Headmistress of
Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Sin Ming.
Representing UTAR were Vice President for
Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Prof
Ts Dr Lim Yang Mooi, Director of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies and
Research, Assoc Prof Dr Chin Chong Foh, Deputy Director for R&D and
Postgraduate Programmes of the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), Assoc
Prof Dr Liau Ping Leng, ICS Head of Department of Chinese Studies (Sungai
Long Campus), Dr Ng Bung Chen, ICS Head of Programme (Master in Chinese
Studies), Ts Ng Perng Jeu, Chairperson of the Centre for Immersive
Technology and Creativity from the Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI),
Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Director of Office of International Affairs,
academics and staff.

The meeting began with a welcome remark from
UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, delivered through a video
message, followed by an opening speech from Prof Goi. Mr Wu Yuedong
delivered an address on behalf of the Jilin delegation, expressing
enthusiasm for the expanding relationship between UTAR and Jilin
institutions. Discussions then centred on strategic projects aimed at
fostering robust academic exchanges and joint research initiatives.

The visit also featured the unveiling of the
Jilin Edition Quality Book Corner,
an exclusive collection of texts from Jilin Publishing Group, symbolising a
joint dedication to educational enrichment. Mr Wu and Prof Goi led the
plaque unveiling, accompanied by Mr Sun Chang, who facilitated the book
donation. The ceremony concluded with Mr Wu presenting books to UTAR, which
were gratefully accepted by Prof Goi, Ms Chee Bee Ean, and Datin Seri Zhou
Xingchen on behalf of local schools, further broadening the scope of
cultural exchange.

As part of the cultural programme, the Jilin
Photographers Society organised a photography exhibition, offering an
awe-inspiring look into the landscapes and biodiversity of Jilin Province.
This exhibition, held at UTAR, featured images of iconic sites and rare
species, inviting visitors to appreciate the natural beauty and
environmental richness of Jilin.
