Yi Chuan 3volution surges the night with a flow of modern art
Art is often regarded as a universal language. The aesthetics, acoustics, and emotions, kindled by the various forms of art, transcend cultural boundaries and linguistic barriers. Fueled by an unwavering passion for art, the group of students behind the “Yi Chuan(艺川) – River of Art Concert” series once again brought their creativity to the Kampar community, delivering a vibrant and refreshing experience to the attendees at UTAR Kampar Campus.
After a four-month gap, “Yi Chuan – River of Art Concert” returned for its third iteration on 24 August 2024 at UTAR Multipurpose Hall of Heritage Hall Building, Kampar Campus. Titled “Yi Chuan 3volution – River of Art Concert”, Yi Chuan 3.0 aimed to redefine the boundaries of artistic expression through a vibrant blend of modernistic performances. Resonating with the concert’s primary objective to showcase the versatility and creativity of UTAR talents, Yi Chuan 3.0 presented a diverse range of disciplines, infused with a spirit of artistic resilience. It attracted almost 500 participants, ranging from members of the UTAR community to public visitors.
The audience was greeted by the elegance of ballet as they eagerly awaited the start of the show. Presented by IDance Studio, the dancers’ precise, springy steps and lively rhythms earned the first round of cheers and applause of the night. As the atmosphere turned lively, brimming with euphonia, a series of performances ensued in full swing.
Excitement and applause intensified as the audience witnessed the unfolding of the performances, with each act offering a fresh and unique buzz that continually inspired awe among the audience. Highlights included rap performance (by Unbarred), hip-hop performance (by LShien), popping dance performance (by Nelson), song performance (by 1AM-Lian Ai Nao “恋爱脑”), K-pop dance performances (by UTAR Potter and Fusion), contemporary dance performance (by Movement), Indian traditional dance (by Natya Stars), and Chinese modern dance (by Chen Xi “晨曦”). Not only did the performances by the university’s creative talents coruscated in the public’s eyes, but they also offered a glimpse into the vibrant campus life of UTAR students.
Meanwhile, the solo performance by Liangyu raised the lively atmosphere in the hall to another level. His deftly coordinated dance choreography drew the audience into the world of modern artistry.
Yi Chuan 3.0 was topped off with a stage play centred on a fictional character named Yaqi, who faced bullying as well as difficult family relationships. Directed by the event’s Organising Chairperson Lee Hao Yuan, the play tackled pressing societal issues, including school-related depression and racial discrimination. It took the audience through Yaqi’s hardship and the uplifting finale of her story, filling them with inspiration and at the same time celebrating the beauty of Malaysia’s unique diversity.
Also present were UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Yi Chuan 3.0 Stage Director Ms Alison Yoon, UTAR Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) of Kampar Campus lecturers Ms Mah Siew Huei and Mr Kong Hoi Yoon, Yi Chuan 3.0 Vice Organising Chairperson Tan Zhi Liang, representatives of the concert’s sponsors, committee members, UTAR staff and students.
Infusing the local community with their spirit of art and joy, the organising committee, helpers, and performers displayed the university’s Six Educational Pillars through their vibrant demonstration of contemporary art’s captivating charm. Nevertheless, the audience was left yearning for even more joyous moments at the upcoming Yi Chuan 4.0.
