Celebrating inclusivity at burger-making event

All smiles on a memorable day

Sharing life stories over burger-making was a memory to be remembered for the group of special needs children from Sekolah Semanga Maju Batu Gajah, at the “Burger Making Event for Special Needs Children”. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event was organised by UTAR, in collaboration with Marrybrown Batu Gajah, on 26 September 2024 at Marrybrown, Batu Gajah.

The event aimed to foster social inclusion and give children the joy of hands-on experience in burger-making. Under the guidance of enthusiastic staff from Marrybrown, the children learnt to assemble their burgers. They were assisted by volunteers from UTAR, teachers and Marrybrown Batu Gajah staff.

Parents who attended to support their children also enjoyed the event, and saw the children’s enthusiastic participation. Parents expressed their gratitude to the organisers, because it provided the children opportunity to acquire new skills and gain exposure. It also provided quality parent-children time, and thus became a rewarding experience to all those who participated.

The event ended with a simple souvenir presentation by the representatives of UTAR Office of International Affairs (OIA) to Sekolah Semangat Maju Batu Gajah Principal Mr Ooi Kah Biew. OIA was represented by Ms Loi Sien Mun and Ms Yee Kai Ling. This collaboration signified the commitment of both institutions towards giving back to the community, and underscored the importance of inclusivity and collaboration.
