UTAR and Guiyang University (GYU)
formalised their collaboration by exchanging a memorandum of understanding
(MoU) at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 20 September 2024.
The signatories were UTAR
President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and GYU Academic Affairs Committee
Chairperson Mr Lyu Baoping. However, representing Prof Dato’ Ewe to exchange
the MoU with Mr Lyu was UTAR Vice President for Student Development and
Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong.
Prof Choong said, “On the occasion of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, we cherish the opportunity to collaborate with Guiyang University. The 50 years of friendship and cooperation have witnessed the exchanges and integration between Malaysia and China in various fields, including education, culture and the economy.”

Mr Lyu said, “Even though we may
encounter different challenges and opportunities in our daily work, it is
these very differences that make today’s exchange especially significant and
valuable. We are confident that through open and inclusive learning and
dialogue, we can draw from each other’s strengths, advance together, and
contribute more insight and energy to the progress of education.”

The UTAR-GYU collaboration aimed
to launch joint international research projects, talent training programmes,
and academic exchanges, including faculty visits for research, teaching, and
participation in academic events. It also aimed to promote student mobility
and internships to enhance learning experiences. Moreover, GYU graduates and
faculty members who meet UTAR’s entry and English language requirements can
pursue master’s and doctoral studies at UTAR. Joint supervision for master’s
and doctoral programmes may also be introduced, where appropriate.
Following the MoU exchange, both
parties participated in a souvenir exchange and a group photograph.
