Visit by Kunming University, China

UTAR received visitors from Kunming University (KMU), China, at its Sungai Long Campus on 25 September 2024. The visit aimed to explore possible cooperation on joint research and student/academic exchange.

The visitors consisted of KMU President Prof Dr Ding Wenli, International Cooperation & Exchange Office Director Prof Dr Chen Ling, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Dean Prof Dr Wang Baoling, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Dean Prof Dr Qian Kaiguo, International Programme Officer Mr Zhao Chunyang and Ningxia Yijing Education Technology Co., Ltd. Project Manager Ms Siti Adlin Sofiya.

They were welcomed by UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) Deputy Dean (Student Development and Industrial Training) Dr Tan Kok Tat, Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, OIA Deputy Director (Office of International Affairs) Assoc ProfDr Chen, I-Chi, Centre for International Student Recruitment and Education Collaboration Deputy Director Ms Irene Wong Hong Lei, OIA Assistant Manager Ms Goo Yi Qun and UTAR staff.

The focus of the meeting was on fostering a dynamic partnership between the two esteemed institutions. The discussions revolved around various aspects of cooperation to enhance the academic and cultural exchange between them. Talent training and teacher-student exchange visits emerged as pivotal topics, emphasising the importance of nurturing a well-rounded student body through exposure to diverse educational environments.

Discussions on potential collaborations

Another significant discussion centred on the exchange of students within various courses, promoting a comprehensive understanding of different fields. Both universities looked forward to collaborating on scientific research projects to foster innovation and contribute to advancements in these areas. The meeting marked a significant step towards establishing a robust partnership encompassing academic, cultural, and research dimensions.
