UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus brought excitement to SJK (T) Mambang Diawan schoolchildren with a half-day event for English Week on 25 September 2024. Titled “Language Playtime for Little Explorers”, the event aimed to introduce basic English vocabulary and action words through dynamic and interactive activities.
The event began with a warm-up session for the pre-schoolers, followed by a vocabulary-building game designed to expand the students’ grasp of fundamental English words. CFS Kampar Campus academic Mr Tamil Arasan Naidu Suparamaniam and UTAR student helpers used flashcards and role-play to teach action words and vocabulary in an engaging and lively way.
Meanwhile, the primary students participated in a series of exciting game stations led by CFS Kampar Campus academics Ms Yuvashini Salvamani, Ms Tulasi Subramaniam, and Mr Sree Amertharaj Ratnam. The games included Scrambled Letters, Charades, Hidden Words, Crossword Puzzles, and Build Me. These games required the students to apply their vocabulary, grammar, and spelling skills while tapping into their creativity to complete the challenges.
The programme ended with a prize-giving ceremony where the winning groups walked away with their respective prizes according to their final scores.
Reflecting on the event, Ms Tabitha Jothi Nagaiah, the Head of English Language Panel of SJK(T) Mambang Diawan remarked, “The game stations were incredibly dynamic and captivating. The students’ confidence was greatly boosted, and they fully utilised the language lab while working in groups. The warmth and friendliness of the facilitators made it easy for the students to bond with them. This event greatly benefited both the pre-schoolers and primary students.”
