It was a meaningful day for UTAR, as the university’s alumni, who are pursuing their passions in Singapore, came together to reflect on their journeys as well as share light-hearted moments with both their peers and those from different years on 28 September 2024 at Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant, Singapore.

Fostering connections and exploring the vibrant network of experiences among talents of diverse backgrounds, the “UTAR Alumni Meet-Up in Singapore”, organised by the Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP), brought alumni together for a brief series of inspiring conversations and reminiscence. Besides that, the meet-up also aimed to explore alumni’s interest in establishing a UTAR Alumni Chapter in Singapore, which would strengthen connections and facilitate feedback on future alumni activities.

The restaurant pulsated with echoes of laughter and conversations as the alumni shared their career journeys and exchanged valuable insights from their respective fields, and at the same time, exchanged a wide array of stories from their study time as UTAR students.

UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations, Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, also informed the alumni of the current developments and achievements of UTAR during the gathering, sparking various talks about collaboration between alumni in Singapore and the university.

Dr Daniel Teh Boon Loong and Ms Ng Szu Youn were nominated as the liaison representatives for the Singapore UTAR Alumni Chapter following a series of discussions on the prospect of establishing an official UTAR Alumni Chapter in Singapore.

After graduating from UTAR in 2006, Ms Ng Szu Youn, who is currently the Director of Dreiheit House International Pte. Ltd., expressed her delight and gratitude for the organisation of the alumni meet-up. She enthused, “It was a meaningful experience, and I truly appreciate the effort UTAR put into making this meet-up a reality. This gathering feels like the start of something special, and I am hopeful it is just the beginning. I look forward to more opportunities to connect and build on this momentum in the future.”

The meet-up was also joined by DARP Head Ms Tan Cheng Wah and DARP Manager Ms Kong Pui Ling.

UTAR Alumni Meet-Up in Singapore not only rekindled connections with alumni pursuing their passions in Singapore, but also broadened education-industry horizons within its alumni network, as the lively group celebrated their shared history and bonds while looking forward to future activities with the university.
