UTAR and Public Bank honour top graduates at PB Top Achiever Award e-Ceremony

UTAR and Public Bank Berhad (PBB) jointly celebrated the academic achievements of six top graduates in an inspiring online award ceremony on 9 October 2024. Hosted on Microsoft Teams, the PB Top Achiever Award e-Ceremony showcased the dedication and academic success of students from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) and the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF).

The ceremony brought together prominent figures from Public Bank and UTAR, reflecting the strong partnership between the two institutions. Representing Public Bank, Ms Jennifer Chen Mui Yan, Director of Knowledge and Learning, attended as the speaker and was joined by Ms Yow Wai Yin, Vice President of Human Capital Management. UTAR representatives included President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, deans, deputy deans, and heads of departments from FAM and FBF, alongside the Director of DEAS (Division of Examinations and Admissions), creating an atmosphere of academic camaraderie and support for student success.

Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed his admiration for the students’ hard work and extended gratitude to Public Bank for its ongoing support of educational achievements. Prof Dato’ Ewe remarked on the significance of this award as a celebration of excellence and perseverance, highlighting Public Bank’s essential role in encouraging students to strive for their best. He stated, “Your achievements today are a stepping stone toward greater accomplishments,” encouraging the award recipients to continue fostering a spirit of resilience and community impact in their careers.

Ms Jennifer Chen then took the virtual stage, offering congratulations to the winners and underscoring Public Bank’s commitment to recognising young talent. Her remarks reinforced the importance of the PB Top Achiever Award in paving pathways for students to excel in their academic and professional lives. Her message, warmly received by attendees, resonated with the shared values of both institutions, which seek to nurture tomorrow’s leaders and thinkers.

The award announcements followed, marking the pinnacle of the ceremony. This year’s top achievers from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management included Lam E Vaine in first place, followed by Tan Yixin and Ooi Zhi Yong in second and third places, respectively. From the Faculty of Business and Finance, the first place went to Mandy Leong Pei Ying, with Genevieve Tan Xin Yii and Low Ke Mei securing second and third places. Each awardee received a cash prize, a plaque and a certificate, with Public Bank generously awarding a total of RM10,000.

In heartfelt acceptance speeches, the award recipients expressed their gratitude and reflected on the motivation the recognition provides for further excellence. Their words were met with warm applause, symbolising the pride and encouragement of the UTAR community and Public Bank representatives alike. The ceremony concluded with a group photo session, capturing the celebratory spirit of the event and the collaborative success between UTAR and Public Bank.
