An Industry Advisory Panel (IAP)
Meeting was organised by UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and
Science (LKC FES) at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 22 October 2024.
The IAP Meeting provided a platform for
cross-departmental discussions, fostering collaboration and dialogue between
UTAR academics and the invited industry experts. By sharing insights on
current industrial trends, the meeting aimed to tackle important issues,
including competitive remuneration such as minimum wages and salary
increments for people working in the field, the flexibility in combining
remote and in-office work (hybrid working), and the university’s role in
talent recruitment.
Chairing the meeting was LKC FES Dean
Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, along with other LKC FES deputy deans, heads of
departments and academics.
Prof Yap sharing the overview of UTAR
During the meeting, Prof Yap provided
the IAP members with an overview of UTAR, including the university’s vision
and mission as well as details about its two campuses. He highlighted that
LKC FES is the largest faculty at UTAR and discussed the programmes offered.
He also shared the research centres within LKC FES and displayed the
organisational chart, introducing the deputy deans and heads of departments
to the IAP members.

sharing the feedbacks received from the IAP members on the issues discussed,
followed by a lab visit.
UTAR is committed to sustained
excellence by working closely with industry experts to develop its
curriculum. This collaboration improves educational quality and enriches
teaching methods with valuable industry insights and real-world examples. As
a result, graduates are well-equipped to tackle the challenges of today’s
workforce, helping UTAR maintain a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving
technological landscape.
