UTAR Sports Carnival 2024 showcases athleticism, teamwork and sportsmanship

The UTAR Sports Carnival 2024, an eagerly anticipated annual event, took place on 14 July 2024 at the Talent Champs Sports Complex in Kajang, Selangor. The event brought together 233 players and 51 helpers from various faculties of UTAR, all eager to participate in a series of exciting inter-faculty sports competitions. Organised with the support of the UTAR Sports Club Sungai Long Campus, the carnival featured five major sports events, including Volleyball Mix, Badminton, Table Tennis, Futsal and Basketball Men5X5.

The Volleyball Mix competition was one of the highlights of the day, with five teams battling it out on the court. The mixed-gender format added a unique dynamic to the game, requiring teams to excel in coordination and teamwork. After a series of intense matches, Team “All For Paris” came out on top, winning two out of three sets in a thrilling final against “TARRU VC”, which secured second place. The teams “First Time Play Volleyball” and “KeLeFe” finished in third and fourth places, respectively.

A thrilling match between two teams

Badminton was another focus point of the carnival, featuring 10 mixed teams competing in a knockout format. The competition was divided into men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles events, showcasing the participants’ precision and athleticism. Team “Scammer” from the Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FAM) and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) clinched the championship, while “SUS Enjinier” from Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) secured the first runner-up position. Teams from LKC FES, namely “Half Court Hero” and “Capybara”, shared the second runner-up spot.

The Table Tennis competition attracted many skilled players who delivered some of the most thrilling matches of the carnival. The event included men’s singles, women’s singles, and men’s doubles categories, with a total of 15 participants. San Xian Yi/span> took the men’s singles title, with Tan Jia Yang as the runner-up. In the men’s doubles category, Hor Huai Liang and Tan Jia Yang emerged as champions. The women’s singles title was claimed by Teo Qiao Yuan, followed by Sia Jia Wen as the first runner-up.

The Futsal tournament, known for its fast-paced and strategic gameplay, featured six teams divided into two groups. After a series of competitive matches, “BREXIT FC” secured the gold medal, followed by “OWN GOAL FT” with the silver. The teams “BENCH BRO CLUB” and “STOICS” each earned a bronze medal. The tournament kept the audience captivated as the players displayed agility, strategy, and teamwork.

The Basketball Men5X5 competition was a major attraction at the carnival, drawing seven teams to compete in the high-energy games. “Blitz Team” claimed the gold medal after a series of intense matches, with “Grashopper Team” taking the silver. The teams “We Win Team” and “Spade Team” shared the bronze, adding to the excitement of the event.

An exhilarating basketball match

The UTAR Sports Carnival 2024 was a resounding success, offering participants an opportunity to enhance their physical, technical, tactical, and psychological skills. The event not only promoted physical fitness and sportsmanship but also fostered a sense of unity among the UTAR community. As the carnival concluded, it left participants with valuable experiences and the determination to continue improving their skills and performance in future competitions. The success of this year’s carnival sets a strong foundation for even greater achievements in the years to come.
