UTAR collaborates with PPD Daerah Kinta Selatan for innovative teaching seminar

PPDKS and UTAR representatives with other educational professionals

On 29 August 2024, UTAR participated in a seminar hosted by PPD Daerah Kinta Selatan (PPDKS), focusing on advancing teaching strategies and innovations in education. The event took place at the PPDKS Meeting Room. It saw active participation from educational professionals eager to enhance their pedagogical approaches.

The seminar commenced with registration and a photography session at 8:30 AM, followed by the recital of prayers led by Tuan Haji Azmin Basha, the Assistant Officer for Special Education Recovery at PPDKS. Dr Mior Hamdan bin Haji Ghazali, the District Education Officer, delivered the opening speech, emphasising the importance of continuous professional development for educators. Representing UTAR, Ts Dr Ooi Kean Thong from Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science, addressed the audience, highlighting UTAR’s commitment to supporting educational innovation and collaboration with local education offices.

The seminar featured three main sessions. The first session, facilitated by UTAR Centre for Modern Languages and Literature Chairperson Dr Nadya Supian and Dr Ooi, saw participants sharing their teaching experiences and strategies. The interactive session allowed educators to exchange insights and best practices.

After a short break, the second session, led by UTAR PG Dip in Educational Tech and Master in Educational Tech Programmes Head Dr Kristina Francis, focused on enhancing digital teaching strategies, providing valuable tips and techniques for educators to integrate technology into their classrooms better. The third session, presented by UTAR Centre for Learning and Teaching Chairperson Dr Wei Chooi Yi, explored innovative teaching methods that can be implemented without the need for internet access, ensuring that quality education is accessible even in areas with limited connectivity.

The seminar concluded with a certificate presentation ceremony, followed by a networking lunch where participants had the opportunity to further discuss the ideas shared during the sessions. The seminar was part of UTAR’s ongoing efforts to contribute to the professional growth of educators and to promote innovative teaching methods in line with the latest educational advancements.
