UTAR was delighted to welcome 24
students and two staff members from Hungkuang University (HKU) for the
inbound student mobility programme, held from 4 to 11 August 2024. The HKU
team was led by Dr Huang, Yen-Po, an academic from the HKU Department of
Medical Equipment Development and Application. The programme themed ‘Exploring
biomedical engineering and culture learning in Malaysia’ was designed to
offer an immersive educational experience, fostering international
understanding and collaboration while strengthening the bond between
	UTAR and HKU.

Throughout the week, the programme
provided the HKU students with a comprehensive understanding of biomedical
engineering through a series of academic lectures and hands-on workshops.
The key modules included a Wireless ECG Acquisition Workshop, which offered
an in-depth exploration of wireless electrocardiography, and an Introduction
to Cell Culture Techniques, which provided a beginner-friendly introduction
to essential methods in biomedical research. The students also participated
in workshops on 3D Printing for Wearable Sensor Fabrication, Biomechanics of
Human Gait Analysis, and Photoplethysmography (PPG) Signal Processing,
giving them a wide-ranging insight into modern biomedical technologies and
	practices.

In addition to the academic focus,
the programme emphasised cultural exchange, offering HKU students a chance
to experience Malaysia’s rich heritage. The cultural activities began with
an introduction to Malaysian culture, which provided participants with an
overview of the country’s diverse cultural landscape. The programme also
included excursions to iconic cultural and historical sites such as Batu
Malai Sri Murugan Temple at Batu Caves, the Malaysian Chinese Museum, and
Putra Mosque in Putrajaya. These visits allowed participants to experience
Malaysia’s multicultural environment firsthand and gain a deeper
	appreciation of its cultural diversity.

This inbound student mobility
programme not only enhanced the academic and cultural knowledge of the
participants but also strengthened the ties between UTAR and HKU. The
week-long programme concluded with a closing ceremony and dinner at
Putrajaya Cruise Tasik, celebrating the friendships and connections forged
during the visit. Furthermore, this initiative enriched the educational
journey of the HKU students and laid the groundwork for future
collaborations between UTAR and HKU. The experience gained through this
programme will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the participants,
preparing them for future challenges in the global academic and professional
	landscape.
