On 26 August 2024, UTAR Head of STEM
Outreach Dr Ong Kiah Ju delivered an insightful talk titled “STEM Education
and Future” to Form Three students at SMJK Confucian KL.
The talk, which was organised by
UTAR STEM Outreach and the Division of Programme Promotion, provided
students with a comprehensive understanding of the rapidly changing world,
the ongoing industrial revolution, and the future landscape of jobs.
“Sixty-five per cent of children entering primary school today will
ultimately end up working in new jobs that have not yet existed,” said Dr
Ong.
Dr Ong also highlighted the
essential skills needed for the future, including the businesses’ top 10
skill priorities for 2027, namely analytical thinking, creative thinking, AI
and big data, leadership and social influence, resilience, flexibility and
agility, curiosity and lifelong learning, technological literacy, design and
user experience, motivation and self-awareness, and empathy and active
listening. Furthermore, she also emphasised the importance of STEM education
in preparing students for the challenges ahead.
The talk left students motivated and
better equipped to navigate their future careers, highlighting the essential
role of STEM education in guiding their professional journeys.
