CFS enhances language and accounting skills through workshops for school students
In a bid to enhance the English writing abilities of Form 5 students in SMJK Shing Chung and equip them with essential tools for excelling in the SPM English examination, UTAR Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus hosted an immersive and dynamic SPM English Writing Workshop on 9 August 2024. Held as part of the UTAR-SMJK Shing Chung Talent Development Project, the workshop convened over 100 participants.
The workshop featured two CFS Kampar Campus academics. Mr Lionel Keith Vytialingam, the first speaker, offered invaluable guidance to the students, focusing on effective writing techniques and useful phrases. He also incorporated sample questions, helping students to understand the critical elements needed to excel in extended writing. Following this, another CFS Kampar Campus academic, Ms Chung Zi Ling, led a fun and interactive vocabulary game. The groups with the highest scores were awarded prizes.
Ngoi Hui Yue, a Form 5S2 student said, “This workshop has given me the confidence to excel in my upcoming exams. I have learned valuable techniques to score higher marks in paper 3.” Leow Ying Thung from Form 5S1 shared, “The workshop was very helpful. The speaker introduced new vocabulary that I hadn’t learned before. I am confident that I can achieve good results in my exams.”
On a different occasion, sixty Form 3 students from SMK Methodist (ACS) Kampar had an exciting and enjoyable experience at the Accounting Workshop organised by the CFS of UTAR Kampar Campus on 23 August 2024. The workshop was facilitated by CFS Kampar Campus academics Ms Yip Mei Theen, Ms Devagi Erusan and Ms Tsen Tzu Yee.
The goal of the workshop was to expose secondary school students to career opportunities in accounting and kindle their interest through various interactive and engaging activities. The event began with Ms Yip’s talk titled Accounting Counts, where she outlined the career paths and professional development in accounting, captivating students with intriguing real-world examples.
Following Ms Yip’s talk, Ms Devagi and Ms Tsen took the stage to introduce key accounting terms and concepts. They then led the accounting quiz and games that required students to apply their accounting knowledge and teamwork.
Tharsitha Thamil Selvam from Form 3 Bestari shared, “I am thrilled and happy. I truly enjoyed the accounting games. I hope to attend similar workshops in the future.”
Anis Sabiha binti Asmadi Liza from Form 3 Bestari added, “I feel great. This workshop has opened my eyes to various career opportunities in accounting and sparked my interest in the field.”
