UTAR was pleased to welcome Public Mutual Berhad
Agency Manager Mr Le Hock Hin to its Sungai Long Campus on 6 September 2024
to deliver an insightful sharing session titled
Unit Trusts Investment in Personal Financial Planningi>.
Organised by the Department of Finance, the session attracted over 100
students, eager to deepen their understanding of unit trusts investment, an
area that is not typically covered in their current studies.
Mr Le began the session by explaining the basics of
unit trust investment, which pools funds from investors to create a
diversified portfolio managed by professionals. He introduced various types
of unit trusts, including equity funds, fixed-income funds, balanced funds,
and money market funds, each catering to different financial goals and risk
appetites. He then highlighted the benefits of unit trusts, such as
diversification, affordability, liquidity, and professional management,
while also addressing potential drawbacks like market risk, fees, and
opportunity costs compared to other investment options.
The event saw the participation of
over 100 students from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management
Emphasising the importance of financial planning, Mr
Le encouraged students to strive for financial freedom, saying,
“I hope everyone goes to work
because they love the job, not because they have to work for a living.”/span>
He shared practical steps for financial planning and introduced the Rule
of 72, a formula to estimate how long it takes for an investment to
double.
