A
memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between UTAR
Centre for Corporate and Community Development (CCCD) and Ecohair Salon &
Academy Sdn Bhd on 11 September 2024 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The
signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Ecohair
Academy Founder Mr
Tan Kean Boon.
The MoU
aimed at improving education and training in the hairdressing industry. It
also aimed to explore cooperation in delivering training programmes,
fostering personal and professional growth, and creating career
opportunities for students. Furthermore, the collaboration sought to prepare
participants for professional roles, offering a pathway for employment and
entrepreneurial ventures.

Ecohair Academy Principal, Mr Teh
Wei Chuan, together with the dedicated staff of Ecohair Salon & Academy,
attended the event, marking their strong support and presence. They were
warmly welcomed by CCCD Director, Ms Lim Guat Yen, along with staff members
from UTAR, who extended their heartfelt greetings and appreciation for the
partnership and collaboration between the institutions. The occasion
reflected the mutual respect and shared commitment toward fostering
professional growth and development in the industry.

Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed, “Collaboration between
universities and industries has become a key force driving the deep
integration of education and industry. UTAR actively seeks opportunities for
collaboration with various industries, aiming to jointly cultivate
high-quality talent that meets market demands through resource sharing and
complementary strengths.”
He concluded, “We are very
honoured to provide professional course certification for Ecohair students.
We believe that through this MoU, we can provide students with a more
comprehensive and in-depth learning experience, helping them achieve more
brilliant achievements in their careers.”

Mr Tan
said, “The hairdressing industry and hairstylists in Malaysia have not
received sufficient attention and support, and also lack appropriate
certification and recognition. The course offered by Ecohair Academy has
received educational certification from UTAR CCCD, making it the first
hairdressing academy in Malaysia to establish an educational collaboration
with UTAR CCCD.”
He
concluded, “I hope through this educational collaboration, we can continue
to receive guidance and support from UTAR CCCD and help Malaysia’s
hairdressing industry and hairstylists gain the recognition they deserve.”
