UTAR STEAM Outreach, in collaboration with the Division of Programme Promotion (DPP), the Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT), the Confucius Institute, and UTAR Hospital, successfully conducted a STEM Experiment Demonstration on 13 March 2025 at SMK Methodist (A.C.S.), Sitiawan, Perak.
The event, held in the school’s laboratory, provided an immersive learning experience for 123 Form 4 students, fostering their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
Academics from FEGT and the UTAR Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) Centre led workshops that introduced students to practical applications of STEM concepts through interactive sessions. The students had the opportunity to explore Arduino programming, where they gained hands-on experience in basic coding and circuit design. Another session focused on environmental sustainability through the “Green Coaster and Heat Stress Tracker” activity, which demonstrated the principles of energy conservation and climate awareness. A demonstration on pneumatic systems provided insights into air pressure and its applications in engineering, while the Traditional Chinese Medicine workshop introduced students to alternative healthcare practices and their scientific foundations.
The event was aligned with several United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Climate Action (SDG 13). By integrating these global goals into the workshops, the initiative highlighted the importance of sustainable development and technological innovation in education.
