A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between UTAR and the Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT), China, on 18 April 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and NJUPT Chairman Prof Guo Yufeng. The signing was witnessed by UTAR Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and NJUPT Department of International Cooperation & Exchanges Director Prof Dr Wang Haiyan.
The MoU aimed to promote mutual academic and research development. The cooperation encompasses joint research projects, talent cultivation, academic staff and student exchanges and internship opportunities.

Present at the event were NJUPT College of Science Dean Prof Yan Xiaohong, College of Materials Science and Engineering Dean Prof Fan Quli and College of Integrated Circuit Science and Engineering Chairman Prof Gao Xiang.
UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Centre for Healthcare Science and Technology Chairperson Ir Prof Dr Chee Pei Song, Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Deputy Director Ir Prof Ts Dr Bernard Saw Lip Huat and Centre for Sustainable Mobility Technologies Chairperson Assoc Prof Ts Dr Jun Hieng Kiat were present as well.

Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed, “Through this MoU, UTAR and NJUPT will establish a closer collaborative network, leveraging each other’s strengths to carry out comprehensive cooperation and achieve mutual benefits. We look forward to working hand in hand in the future to foster multiple collaborations, drive educational innovation, cultivate internationally competitive talents, and contribute to societal progress.”
Prof Guo introduced the profile and development achievements of NJUPT, noting that NJUPT currently has six academics from Malaysia. He emphasised the broad potential for collaboration between the two institutions in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence and the digital economy. He expressed hope that this partnership would serve as a catalyst for jointly advancing education and technological development and looked forward to deeper cooperation and progress between both parties in the future.
