Continuous learning is not limited to books and digital content. Learning takes place in games as well, as proven in the English-Chinese “Basic Basketball Rules and Refereeing Course”, jointly organised by the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) and Perak Basketball Association (PBA), in collaboration with UTAR Kampar Sports and Recreation Unit (SRU), from 26 to 27 April 2025.
Designed for individuals interested in becoming certified basketball referees or those seeking to deepen their understanding of the sport, the first day saw participants gather at the workshop held at UTAR Kampar Campus, which focused on basketball rules, referee responsibilities, and case studies. Meanwhile, the second day was a practical session held at the Kampar Old Town Basketball Court, where participants put their skills to the test through hands-on officiating drills and live game simulations.
Registered participants also received a Referee Rules e-book, a set of referee attire, and an e-certificate of participation each. Additionally, participants acquired in-depth instruction on basketball rules, refereeing techniques, game management, and officiating skills. The session also equipped participants with the knowledge and confidence to professionally officiate school-level basketball games.
Distinguished speakers, namely Mr Peck Meng Cong from Johor, a certified MABA referee, and Mr Hum Zhung Liang from Penang, an internationally certified FIBA referee, were also in attendance. Other guests included PBA Member Mr Chiew Lee Ming, Chairman of Referees Mr Jason Yeoh Kean Lim, PBA Member Mr Tan Tiang Seng, DSA Kampar Head of Department Mr Chiang Jeng Fong, and SRU Officer Ms Lau Mun Yee.
