UTAR and RENUE TCM formalise strategic partnership to advance TCM education and research

In a significant step towards enhancing the integration of traditional healthcare with modern academic excellence, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and RENUE TCM Sdn Bhd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 15 July 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The ceremony marked the beginning of a dynamic collaboration aimed at enriching student learning, fostering research, and advancing the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) through shared expertise and innovation.

The MoU signing ceremony was officiated by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and RENUE TCM Director Ms Tee Jing Xuan, witnessed by senior representatives from both institutions. Representing UTAR were Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development; Prof Dr Thong Meow Keong, Dean of the M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Director of the Office of International Affairs; Dr Yap Yau Pin, Assistant Professor at the Department of Chinese Medicine; and Ms Liu Dan, Manager of the Office of International Affairs.

The delegation from RENUE TCM included Mr Hew Wen Han Edwin, Ms Leow Pao Lian, and Ms Lim Yoke Teng, all of whom are Chinese physicians.

In his welcome address, Prof Dato’ Ewe underscored the significance of the collaboration, describing it as “a meaningful partnership grounded in shared values, mutual respect, and a common vision for advancing TCM through education, research, and practical engagement.” He further highlighted the potential benefits for UTAR students, particularly in hands-on learning, professional training, and access to treatment discounts at RENUE TCM’s facilities.

In her speech, Ms Tee emphasised RENUE TCM’s dedication to holistic wellness and expressed her enthusiasm for the future joint initiatives with UTAR. She said, “We are honoured to partner with UTAR in shaping a future where TCM and modern education go hand in hand. This collaboration marks the beginning of impactful learning, innovation, and community care.”

The signing ceremony was followed by a group photo session and a cordial discussion between both parties, symbolising not only the formalisation of their alliance but also a shared aspiration to blend tradition with academic rigour. The MoU outlines a comprehensive scope for cooperation, including joint international research projects, faculty and student exchanges, internship placements, collaborative postgraduate supervision, and the development of academic and public health initiatives.
