Guests, speakers and participants
The UTAR Centre for Railway Infrastructure and Engineering (CRIE), in collaboration with the IEM Student Society, successfully hosted the Invest Selangor Career Outreach (SCOUT) 2025 at Sungai Long Campus on 12 August 2025.
The event attracted more than 50 students eager to explore career pathways and gain valuable industry insights. Serving as a platform to connect students with industry professionals, the programme aimed to strengthen academia–industry collaboration, support Selangor’s workforce development, and enhance students’ career readiness, particularly in the engineering and technology sectors.
The event began with a welcome remark by Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, who highlighted the importance of nurturing industry-relevant skills among graduates. This was followed by a remark from Invest Selangor Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Hassan Azhari bin Haji Idris, who emphasised the state’s economic growth potential and the need for skilled talent to drive industrial progress.
The event featured an impressive line-up of distinguished speakers. They were Ir Shahrizaman Zamhury, Head of System Design at Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL); Mr Mohamed Rizal Sapari, Group Chief Business Development Officer and Project Director at Hartasuma Sdn Bhd; Dr Arvind Hari Narayanan, Executive Director of Emrail Sdn Bhd; and Mr Mohammad Ali Kashif, Head of Marketing and Project Solutions at ManpowerGroup Malaysia.
The speakers shared their professional journeys, discussed industry trends, and offered practical advice for students aspiring to join the engineering and infrastructure sectors. Topics ranged from large-scale railway project design and manufacturing to business development, leadership, and workforce solutions in an evolving job market.
The interactive Q&A allowed students to engage directly with the speakers, seeking guidance on career pathways, technical skills, and personal growth strategies. Many participants expressed that the event broadened their perspectives on opportunities in both local and international markets.
In closing, the organiser expressed appreciation to Invest Selangor, the speakers, and all participants for their contributions.
