On 18 August 2025, UTAR hosted a talk titled Planning Today for a Better Tomorrow: A Guide to EPF amd Retirement Readiness at its Sungai Long Campus. Organised by UTAR’s Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) and Centre for Entrepreneurial Sustainability (CENTS), the session aimed to raise financial awareness and prepare students for a financially secure retirement, aligning with UTAR’s commitment to holistic student development.
The speaker for the session was Ms Fadhlina Daud, Advisor and Assistant Manager at the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), who brought with her over two decades of experience in financial planning, EPF policy, and retirement education. With a professional background spanning several departments within EPF including enforcement, withdrawal, and internal audit, Ms Fadhlina offered the audience a comprehensive insight into the significance of early financial planning and how EPF mechanisms support this journey.
The talk attracted a diverse group of students eager to gain practical knowledge about EPF savings, retirement schemes, and the advantages of starting financial planning early. Ms Fadhlina’s presentation clarified the roles and functions of EPF, highlighting its various savings and investment schemes, including i-Saraan and i-Invest, which are particularly beneficial for young Malaysians entering the workforce or pursuing freelance careers.
In addition to the talk, an informational booth was set up at the campus, providing students with personalised consultations and further clarification on EPF products and services. The dual engagement, formal presentation and one-on-one interaction, allowed students to apply the knowledge gained in a more practical and immediate context.
The session not only promoted financial literacy but also encouraged students to reflect on their long-term goals, empowering them to make informed decisions today for a stable future. “It is never too early to start thinking about your retirement. The choices you make now, as students and future professionals, will shape your financial security tomorrow,” said Ms Fadhlina.
