The Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC), in collaboration with the Community Service Society (CSS) through its OHANA project, successfully organised a school outreach programme titled We Care We Act: Funtastic Workshop at SJKC Kampung Baru Semenyih on 23 August 2025.
The workshop aimed to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel valued, confident, and motivated in their educational journey. It also sought to enhance students’ curiosity and creativity in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through interactive activities that promoted innovation, problem-solving, teamwork, and collaborative learning, while strengthening the bond between UTAR volunteers and the local community.
A total of 18 UTAR volunteers participated in the outreach, dedicating their time and effort to bring STEM learning to life for the primary school students.
The outreach featured eight STEM-inspired station games and hands-on activities, including Math Solving & Football Tic Tac Toe, Fizzy Foam Fountain & Lava Lab, Launch My Rocket, First Aid Basics, Organ Attack, Monopoly Math Game, Know the Animals, and Water Transfer Race. Volunteers facilitated each booth, ensuring the sessions were both educational and engaging for the young learners.

Sharing their experience, one of the participants said, “I learned a lot during the station games challenge, such as science, experiments, mathematics, air pressure, and even practical skills like how to bandage an injury. Most importantly, I felt very happy throughout the activities.”
The Funtastic Workshop not only nurtured students’ curiosity but also provided UTAR volunteers with a meaningful platform to practise leadership, teamwork, and community service. The project reflected UTAR’s continuous commitment to community engagement, education, and life-long learning.
At the end of the workshop, SJKC Kampung Baru Semenyih Vice-Principal Ms Cheong Sek Ling presented a token of appreciation to DSSC representative Ms Lim Jia Jia.
