UTAR strengthens international friendship through sports at
Kunming College Games

UTAR proudly stood as Malaysia’s sole representative at the 6th Lancang-Mekong College Students’ Goodwill Games and the 8th South and Southeast Asia College Students’ Culture and Sports Week, held from 18 to 27 October 2025 at Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), China. The international event brought together universities from China, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, fostering friendship, mutual understanding, and collaboration through sports and cultural exchange.

Representing UTAR, the badminton team, comprising Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Logistics and Supply Chain Management students Chin Jian Ming and Chin Huey Xing, Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) Communications and Networking student Dave Chong Jian, Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Accounting students Ng Jia Qian and Ng Jia Shuen, and Bachelor of Information Systems (Honours) (Information Systems Engineering) student Yap Chung Chuen, demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination. Despite challenges such as high altitude, low temperatures, and competing against students from sports-focused universities, the team proudly showcased UTAR’s spirit of perseverance and sportsmanship.

Among the standout performers were Yap, who secured 5th place in Men’s Singles, and Chin, who earned 8th place in Women’s Singles, bringing recognition to UTAR on the international stage. Their achievements reflect not only personal skill and dedication but also the collective support and teamwork of the entire squad.

The team was led by Ms Goh Man Hua from the Department of Student Affairs of Kampar Campus, who also represented UTAR at the 4th Session of the 1st Board Meeting of the China–South & Southeast Asian College Students’ Goodness Games Network, themed Sports for a Shared Future.

Beyond the competitive arena, UTAR athletes embraced the opportunity to experience Yunnan’s rich cultural heritage, exploring Guandu Ancient Town and the Yunnan Museum, and enjoying the iconic Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles. These cultural exchanges complemented the sporting spirit of the event, creating lasting memories and fostering international friendships.

Reflecting on the journey, Ms Goh shared, “Our students not only competed with skill and determination but also represented UTAR’s values of friendship and cultural understanding. Their perseverance in the face of challenges has truly made us proud.”

UTAR extends heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to all athletes and the coordinator for their dedication, effort, and exemplary sportsmanship. Their participation in Kunming strengthened international ties, celebrated cultural diversity, and highlighted the unifying power of sports, leaving a legacy of pride and inspiration for the University community.
