Du-it Right, a financial literacy awareness campaign organised by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) final-year students from the Bachelor of Media and Creative Studies (Honours) and Bachelor of Corporate Communication (Honours) programmes under the Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI), concluded successfully on 25 November 2025 at the UTAR Sungai Long Campus.

The campaign was officiated by Assoc Prof Dr David Tneh Cheng Eng, Dean of FCI, who delivered an opening speech. In his remarks, Dr David Tneh emphasised the importance of managing finances effectively to lead a better financial life. He also urged students to prioritise financial discipline over quick profits. He stated, “Financial success does not happen overnight. If any opportunity promises results that are simply too good to be true, then it absolutely is. Discipline must be prioritised, because greed remains the quickest path to debt.”

The Project Manager of Du-it Right, Chen Min An, addressed the common misconception among students that “saving a little won’t make a difference” and that “enjoying the present” outweighs future planning. He explained that such a mindset often arises from limited financial literacy, which may lead individuals to depend on instalment plans and accumulate debt. Therefore, he believed that organising a financial literacy campaign is important to equip youths with essential life skills.

An educational talk session titled Know Your Taxation was conducted during the event. The session was delivered by Ms Logeswary Maheswaran, a lecturer from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management. During the talk, she covered key topics such as income tax basics, tax reliefs, and the cycle of earning, spending and taxation. Participants also engaged in interactive mini games designed to reinforce what they learned.

The campaign further featured hands-on game stations where participants were challenged to manage real-world financial scenarios using an allocated RM1,500 “budget”. Informative exhibition boards were also displayed, presenting topics such as income tax, EPF, SOCSO, bank loans, and the differences between debit and credit cards. Participants were encouraged to contribute to the Interactive Goal Board by sharing their five-year financial aspirations, which ranged from property ownership to entrepreneurship. This activity helped participants visualise their future targets while reflecting on their current spending habits.

The campaign successfully attracted over 120 participants. The organisers expressed hope that the initiative will inspire students to make responsible and informed financial decisions, ultimately fostering better financial well-being in the future.
