UTAR and UTAR Hospital host a visit from 99 Speedmart

UTAR and UTAR Hospital welcomed a visit by 99 Speedmart on 18 January 2025 at Kampar.

The meaningful visit aimed to strengthen the collaborative relationship between UTAR and 99 Speedmart. It also sought to provide the 99 Speedmart management team with a clear understanding of UTAR and UTAR Hospital’s operational structures, paving the way towards a potential long-term partnership between the Malaysian higher education institution and mini supermarket chain.

Leading the management team from 99 Speedmart were 99 Speedmart Chief Executive Officer Mr Lee Thiam Wah and Burger King Malaysia and Singapore Chief Executive Officer Ms Ng Lee Tieng.

During the visit, the delegates from 99 Speedmart were given a comprehensive tour of UTAR Kampar Campus and UTAR Hospital, led by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and UTAR Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Dr Ding Lay Ming respectively.

To provide a clear understanding of UTAR and UTAR Hospital’s contemporary development, Prof Dato’ Ewe shared an in-depth introduction to the institutions at the UTAR Gallery, focusing on topics such as the programmes, campus layout, staff and student numbers, academic and industry partners, and future medical services.

Representing 99 Speedmart CEO Mr Lee Thiam Wah, Burger King Malaysia and Singapore CEO Ms Ng Lee Tieng said, “We have previously engaged in brief collaborations with UTAR for student recruitment initiatives. However, this visit provides us with a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insights into UTAR and UTAR Hospital’s development overview, enabling us to develop plans to better support students.”

She added, “As our team gained insights into the development of both UTAR and UTAR Hospital, we believe it will be beneficial to extend our collaboration into talent development, as we always welcome new skills and talents.”

He added, “We wish to provide affordable and high-quality medical services through UTAR Hospital to better serve those in need. At the same time, the hospital will also serve as a hub to train future talents and conduct medical research, inspiring more people to take good care of themselves.”

Additionally, Prof Dato’ Ewe presented a talk titled Artificial Intelligence and Holistic Education to the visiting guests. The talk focused on the evolution of knowledge sharing among humans, discussing the transformation of intelligence into artificial intelligence (AI) in recent decades. He shared both the benefits and inherent risks of integrating AI into education, emphasising its role in fostering a holistic approach to developing modern literacy among students, which is instrumental in today’s rapidly evolving world. Meanwhile, the talk also delved into topics such as biotechnology, neurotechnology, information technology, the industrial revolution, and challenges faced by modern workers and students.
