SMJK Keat Hwa 1 students experience an exciting STEAM Workshop at UTAR

A group of 39 Form 5 students from SMJK Keat Hwa 1, Alor Setar, Kedah, accompanied by three teachers and two Interstudy agents, embarked on an educational journey to UTAR Sungai Long Campus for an engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) workshop.

The event was organised by UTAR STEAM Outreach, in collaboration with the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), the Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI), Confucius Institute at UTAR and the Division of Programme Promotion.

UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min delivered an inspiring speech, emphasising the importance of STEAM education in shaping future-ready students.

Following the speech was a Chinese Traditional Culture Workshop conducted by the Confucius Institute at UTAR. The workshop allowed students to gain a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage.

The students then split into different workshop sessions based on their academic streams. Science stream students participated in the Drone Discovery Workshop, led by LKC FES Department of Mechatronics and BioMedical Engineering academic Assoc Prof Dr Kwan Ban Hoe, and a session on Cracking the Science of Gait with G-Walk, conducted by LKC FES academics Dr Low Jen Hahn and Dr Chan Siow Cheng. These sessions provided hands-on exposure to innovative technologies and scientific concepts.

Meanwhile, students from the Arts stream participated in the Foundation of Basic Animation workshop, facilitated by FCI lecturers Mr Tai Liang Kwang and Mr Nai Vongsuthep Wong Sowat. The session introduced students to the basics of animation, fostering creativity and digital storytelling skills.

The visit concluded with a campus tour, giving students a glimpse of university life and potential academic opportunities at UTAR.
