UTAR Alumni Get Together 2025: A Joyous Chinese New Year Celebration

The UTAR Alumni Get Together with UTAR President 2025, a Chinese New Year celebration, was held on 22 February 2025 at the Multipurpose Hall of UTAR Sungai Long Campus.

Organised by the Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP), the event brought together alumni, staff, and students for an evening of reunion, festivities, and cultural performances. Nex EcoVentures, Balloon Wonderland Sdn Bhd, Astro, and Julies sponsored the event.

The event was attended by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, UTAR Alumni Association of Malaysia President Mr Simon Chong Weng Yeap, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) Dean Dr Pok Wei Fong, Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Ts Dr Ang Kok Yew, DARP Head Ms Tan Cheng Wah, sponsors, alumni, students, and staff.

The event commenced with a welcome speech by Mr Simon Chong, who reflected on his journey with UTAR, recalling how the university has grown since its establishment in 2002. He emphasised that UTAR is more than just an educational institution; it is a close-knit community built on shared experiences, strong bonds, and lifelong friendships. He encouraged alumni to stay connected, collaborate, and support one another, as their network remains one of UTAR’s greatest strengths.

Prof Dato’ Ewe appreciated the alumni’s contributions and emphasised their role in strengthening UTAR’s reputation. He highlighted UTAR’s high graduate employability rate, ongoing collaborations with international universities, and the success of UTAR Hospital, which has received significant support. He also celebrated students’ and staff’s achievements in global competitions and research.

Throughout the night, attendees enjoyed a vibrant line-up of performances, including the rhythmic beats of the 24 Festive Drums, captivating melodies by the UTAR Chinese Orchestra, energetic dances by the UTAR Dance Club, and impressive diabolo showcases. The event was further enlivened by a flash mob, a live band, a performance by the UTAR Music Club, and a special dance performance by alumni from the year 2023, led by Loh Sze Hwei, Lim Zi Yi, Pua Chun Chin, Chai Ching Suen, Kennedy Chin Wei Hong, and Teh Pui Khei.

Adding to the excitement was the Red Envelopes Hunt game and a lucky draw session, which saw participants winning attractive prizes. The event concluded with a grand group photo and a promotional session for DARP.

The UTAR Alumni Get Together continues to serve as a meaningful platform for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater, strengthen friendships, and celebrate shared traditions.
