UTAR students shine at Malaysian Computing Challenge 2024

The Malaysian Computing Challenge (MCC) 2024, organised by the Malaysian Informatics and Programming Society, concluded successfully on 17 November 2024 after an intense 48-hour competition on the MCC online platform. The national-level competition tested the computational and algorithmic thinking skills of students across Malaysia. UTAR made a remarkable impact with 20 participants and a commendable haul of 10 medals.

The MCC is an essential stepping stone in Malaysia’s computing talent pipeline, identifying and nurturing the brightest minds for future participation in prestigious events such as the Malaysian Computing Olympiad (MCO), the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO), and the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). The competition required participants to solve six challenging problems within the time limit, employing programming languages like Python or C++.

UTAR students excelled, earning three Silver and seven Bronze medals. These achievements underscored the effectiveness of UTAR’s rigorous academic preparation, particularly through the Programming Concepts and Design courses taught at the Centre for Foundation Studies of Sungai Long Campus.
