A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between UTAR and Akademi Seni Budaya Dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA) on 19 November 2024 at ASWARA. The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and ASWARA Rektor Prof Dr Tan Awang Besar. Witnessing the signing were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and ASWARA Timbalan Rektor Hal Ehwal Akademik Prof Ts Dr Khairul Azril Ismail.
The collaboration focused on advancing education, teaching, research and artistic activities through initiatives such as joint academic events like masterclasses, seminars, webinars and conferences, prioritising participation in programmes, sharing expert knowledge and expanding cooperation. The partnership aimed to foster innovation and strengthen institutional ties for mutual growth and development.

UTAR Faculty of Creative Industries Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Ts Dr Ang Kok Yew and Office of International Affairs (OIA) Assistant Manager Ms Goo Yi Qun were present as well.

Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed, “This collaboration between UTAR and ASWARA represents a significant step forward in enriching Malaysia’s arts, culture and heritage through education and innovation. This partnership aligns with the National Cultural Policy (DAKEN 2021) and underscores our shared vision of integrating cultural values into higher education to nurture a skilled generation appreciative of artistic heritage.”
Prof Tan expressed his belief that the collaboration between ASWARA’s strengths in arts and culture and UTAR’s expertise in various academic fields could enhance Malaysia’s arts, culture and heritage on the global stage, leading to the achievement of a shared goal.
