UTAR sponsored three students to participate in the UMS 30th Jubilee International Speech Championship, hosted by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and its Toastmasters Club. Held from 15 to 19 November 2024 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, the event commemorated UMS’s 30th anniversary and Toastmasters International’s centennial.
The three beneficiaries were Bachelor of International Business (Honours) student Teo Yi Qi from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management, Bachelor of Science (Honours) Applied Mathematics with Computing student Casimir Chiong Ming Yuan from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES), and Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering with Honours student Koh Yong Xuan from LKC FES.

The championship provided a vibrant platform for participants to showcase their public speaking skills, exchange ideas, and foster international camaraderie. Under the theme ‘Legacy’, the competition showcased exceptional public speaking skills. Teo advanced to the semi-finals, earning a spot among the Top 12 speakers.

Participants engaged in educational sessions focused on public speaking and communication, covering topics such as Effective Communication, Owning Your Voice, English as a Communication Medium, and Speaking to Win. The international event fostered cultural exchange, personal growth and global camaraderie.
