UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Vice President Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min attended the Achievement Exchange Conference for the Shangyu-UTAR Partnership Programme in Shangyu District, Shaoxing, Zhejiang on 10 January 2025.
Launched on 15 October 2024, the programme engaged 14 UTAR students in internships at prestigious institutions, including the Zhejiang Research Institute of Tianjin University, Zhejiang Aifenghuan Environment Information Technology, and Joint Stock Private Limited. The initiative combined professional development, cultural immersion and mentorship, highlighting Shangyu’s efforts to foster international collaboration and talent development.
At the conference, Prof Dato’ Ewe emphasised the programme’s success in providing students with invaluable experience and proposed optimising visa policies to enhance participation. Chen Qin, Director of the Organisation Department of Shangyu District Committee, underscored the potential for deeper collaborations, including joint research, cultural exchanges and expanded partnerships.
Reflecting on his internship, UTAR student Tee Junn Jeh, said, “Inspired by my wonderful experiences in Shangyu, I plan to pursue my master’s degree in China and hope to return to this dynamic ‘City of Innovation’ to realise my dreams.”
The event also featured the establishment of the UTAR “Youth Home” Practice Base in Shangyu. The initiative symbolised a commitment to furthering academic and cultural ties. Both parties exchanged souvenirs, reaffirming their shared vision for future growth and collaboration.
Looking ahead, UTAR and Shangyu plan to strengthen their partnership through academic exchanges, joint research and cultural initiatives, paving the way for shared progress in global education and innovation.
