UTAR and Mintygreen collaborate to innovate senior care services

UTAR’s dedication to community service was reinforced on 15 January 2025 when a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mintygreen Senior Residences Sdn Bhd was signed at UTAR Kampar Campus.

The MoU, which focuses on enhancing the well-being of the elderly community, was signed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Mintygreen CEO and Founder Mr Jimmy Yeap Thye Liang. Present to witness the ceremony included Mintygreen delegates, namely Human Resource Officer Mr Haniff, Finance Manager Ms Iwana, Branch Manager Ms Farah, Sales Admin Assistant Ms Rujun, Management Associate Mr Willis, Marketing Executive Mr Gordon, Head Nurse Ms Cally and Finance Executive Mr Eddie Sim. Also present were FBF Dean Assoc Prof Dr Au Yong Hui Nee, Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Peter Tan Sin Howe, Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Kuah Yoke Chin, Department of Business and Public Administration Head Dr Siti Fazilah binti Abdul Shukor, Office of International Office Deputy Director Dr Chen I-Chi, and staff.

Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed, “This collaboration with Mintygreen is a complement to our active involvement in a variety of community initiatives, which are aimed at improving the quality of life for the community. We are excited to embark on this partnership because, through these initiatives, we can expand our efforts in serving the community while fostering a sense of social commitment, and instil important values of compassion, empathy and civic responsibility in those involved, especially our staff and students.”

He added, “By collaborating with Mintygreen, we are also expanding opportunities for our students to learn and acquire expertise and insights into the best practices of senior care services. This adds to the enriching academic experiences for our students as they learn and develop skills and compassion that will prove important in advancing senior care services in Malaysia.”

As Mr Jimmy Yeap recalled his first encounter with Prof Dato’ Ewe, he expressed his excitement to achieve this shared commitment and goals in the senior healthcare sector through this collaboration. He added, “We are also joining hands because we recognise the need for talents to be recruited in this sector, which contributes to employment opportunities and expansion of the business. With this collaboration, we will be able to expand our efforts on talent development through training and internships; business innovation and partnerships; and community engagements through CSR initiatives and financial aid for deserving students.”

The MoU will focus on key areas, such as joint projects involving collaborative research and sharing expertise, and the joint development of research aimed at fostering innovation in senior care services; exchanges of expertise to support research and curriculum development; industrial study visits to provide practical learning experiences; skill training and continuing education programmes for industry professionals; and industrial placements to give students real-world exposure and prepare them for the workforce.
