National Training Week 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus

UTAR reaffirmed its role as a catalyst for lifelong learning and professional development by hosting the National Training Week (NTW) 2025 at its Sungai Long Campus from 16 to 19 June 2025. Organised by the Centre for Corporate and Community Development (CCCD), the four-day initiative was part of a nationwide effort to promote continuous upskilling across all segments of society. Welcoming both UTAR staff and the public, the training week featured a diverse range of topics delivered through a blended format of in-person and online sessions.

The opening day began with a session on Tax Planning for Individuals Year 2025, led by Ms Logeswary Maheswaran of the Faculty of Accountancy and Management. Her session provided timely insights into effective personal tax strategies, helping participants navigate the complexities of the upcoming tax assessment year. This was followed by an engaging online workshop by Dr Tan Wei Lun from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science, who introduced participants to the application of statistical tools in everyday decision-making through his session titled Statistics for Everyday Decisions.

On 17 June 2025, the spotlight turned to sustainability and creativity. Dr Foo Meow Yee, also from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management, presented an insightful session on Risk Management – ESG Operation and Implementation, offering pragmatic approaches for embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into organisational frameworks. Later, Ms Geetha Veerappan from the Faculty of Education captivated participants in her online workshop Canva Magic for Creative Kids, showcasing how digital design tools can enrich educational experiences.

Day three continued with a focus on customer relations and interpersonal development. Mr Lee Yoon Heng of the Faculty of Accountancy and Management led a session titled Customer-Centric Made Simple, exploring the 5As customer journey model and advocating for customer-first strategies. This was complemented by Dr Saraswathy Thurairaj from the Faculty of Creative Industries, whose online session Supercharge Your Social Skills Through Emotional Intelligence emphasised emotional literacy and its importance in effective communication.

The programme concluded on 19 June with a compelling online session by Dr Ravindran Nadarajan from the Teh Hong Piow Faculty of Business and Finance. Titled Know Your Legal Rights, the session equipped attendees with practical legal knowledge relevant to everyday life, reinforcing the importance of informed citizenship.

Each session attracted active participation and positive feedback, reflecting the strong demand for quality upskilling opportunities. NTW 2025 at UTAR underscored the university’s enduring commitment to knowledge dissemination, capacity-building, and societal advancement.
