Displaying the sealed partnership
UTAR’s commitment to expanding student exposure through international education is strengthened by another partnership with the Newports Institute of Communications and Economics, Pakistan. The collaboration was formalised through a virtual memorandum of understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony held on 30 June 2025 via Zoom.
UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat expressed, “UTAR is proud to collaborate with an institution like the Newports Institute, which shares our educational ideals; an institution that emphasises character-building, professional growth, and the holistic development of students through values such as hard work, integrity, and self-awareness. These are essential foundations for nurturing future leaders and changemakers in society.”
He added, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to not only academic advancement but also to the broader cultivation of knowledge, wisdom, and awareness—elements crucial to human flourishing. As both our institutions believe, education must go beyond textbooks; it must foster self-reflection, emotional intelligence, global awareness and ethical leadership.”

Rector of Newports Institute of Communications and Economics Dr Zainab Taiyyeba alias Huma Bukhari commented, “We are delighted to formalise this collaboration, which marks a significant step forward in our commitment to global academic collaboration, innovation, and global engagement. We believe this partnership will open new avenues for student and faculty exchange, joint research projects, cross-cultural learning, and the co-development of cutting-edge academic programmes. By integrating diverse perspectives and expertise from both institutions, we look forward to cultivating a truly global learning environment that empowers our students to become adaptive and forward-thinking leaders capable of addressing complex global challenges.”
Under this collaboration, both institutes will explore joint international collaborative research projects; launch joint talent training programmes to prepare students with skills relevant to today’s global workforce; and facilitate academic exchanges, including mutual visits by faculty members for research, teaching, and participation in seminars, conferences, and workshops.
Beyond that, this MoU will encourage student mobility to enhance learning experiences and foster cross-cultural understanding; provide internship opportunities for undergraduate students to gain industry exposure and practical knowledge; support Newports Institute diploma graduates who meet UTAR’s entry and English language requirements to further their undergraduate studies at UTAR; enable Newports Institute graduates and faculty members who meet the necessary criteria to pursue master’s and doctoral studies at UTAR; and explore joint supervision of postgraduate programmes, where appropriate, to enhance academic rigour and mentorship.
Other representatives of the Newports Institute of Communications and Economics included Registrar Ms Farhat Zehra; Director QEC Mr Muhammad Islam; Event and Student Coordinator Ms Rabia Ali Khan; Director Administration Mr Nadir Aijaz Khan; and HR Officer/ Secretary to Rector Ms Murk Waso.
