In line with its commitment to fostering a healthy and sustainable campus environment, UTAR organised a wellness cycling event on 23 July 2025 at the scenic area behind Block B, Kampar Campus. The initiative aimed to encourage physical activity, environmental sustainability, and a balanced lifestyle among the University community.
Highlighting the University’s leadership in promoting active and healthy living, UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong joined the ride alongside staff and students, setting a positive example for the campus community.
Their participation was further complemented by Teh Hong Piow Faculty of Business and Finance Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Prof Dr Abdelhak Senadjki, Faculty of Science Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Dr Teh Lai Kuan, and Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology academic-cum-UTAR Green Campus Committee (Kampar Campus) Chairperson Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Toh Pey Yi. Together, they reinforced the shared commitment across faculties and departments to cultivate a healthy and inclusive campus culture.
Reflecting the value of student engagement in university-wide initiatives, student volunteers Chooi Kai Xiang and Pang Yi Hao assisted in coordinating the cycling session, ensuring participants enjoyed a safe and well-organised ride.
Beyond the physical activity, the event also aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting an active lifestyle and mental wellness; SDG 4: Quality Education, by encouraging experiential learning and teamwork; and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by advocating for green, people-friendly modes of transport.
Through activities such as this cycling session, UTAR continues to inspire its community to embrace wellness as a collective effort, fostering a healthier, more active, and more sustainable campus for all.
