The UTAR Scholarships Award Presentation Ceremony for the June 2025 intake took place on 22 July 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.
The ceremony recognised not only academic excellence but also UTAR’s ongoing commitment to accessible and inclusive education. Since its establishment, UTAR has awarded over RM219.15million in internal scholarships and RM20.4million in interest-free study loans, benefiting more than 23,000 students.Group photo of recipients and their parents
The event began with a briefing session for scholars, followed by the arrival of official guests and scholarship recipients. A screening of the UTAR corporate video set the tone for the occasion, highlighting the university’s values and mission.
Present at the event were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Dr Zuraidah binti Abd Manaf, UTAR deans, directors, and heads of departments; along with representatives from sponsoring organisations. Among the sponsors present were the Rotary Club of Pudu Past Assistant Governor Mr Low Keng Hwa, Virtuos Malaysia Sdn Bhd Studio General Manager Ms Mufizal Mokhtar, JYY Group CEO Mr Alann, Selangor Properties Philanthropy Manager Ms Vivian Yap, Bodhi Meditation Charity Foundation Sister You Qi, and Melody Kindyland Senior Curriculum Executive Ms Rachel Tee Shao Yen.
In his speech, Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “Receiving a scholarship is more than just financial aid. It is a recognition of your dedication, perseverance, and passion for learning. Three scholarship recipients were invited to share their stories. Among them was Darvinni Mathivanan, who delivered a message of perseverance through adversity. “This scholarship isn’t just a personal win; it’s a reminder that all students, regardless of their backgrounds, stories, or race, are capable of achieving great things if they pour their heart and soul into it,” she said, encouraging fellow scholars not to let fear hold them back.

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery student, Ch’ng Yong Xin, a recipient of the UTAR–Lee Foundation Scholarship, also shared her heartfelt gratitude. “This scholarship has not only given me access to education, but also a purpose. It reminds me that excellence is supported, and I now have the resources and motivation to serve communities like the one I grew up in,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chiew Jing Lu, a Year 3 student in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) programme and a recipient of the Rotary Club of Pudu scholarship, gave a touching account of how UTAR’s financial assistance transformed her academic experience. “Like many students, I come from a family that holds education close to our hearts, but financial challenges made the journey feel uncertain. Receiving this assistance is more than just financial support—it is a beacon of hope. It allows me to focus on my studies, engage in community service, and grow personally and professionally,” she shared.

The event continued with pre-recorded gratitude messages from other scholars, congratulatory messages from UTAR deans and directors, and a surprise video featuring messages from parents. One of the most touching moments of the ceremony was the tea ceremony, where selected students served tea to their parents as a gesture of appreciation and respect.
