Celebrating innovation and industry linkages at LKC FES FYP competition

A convergence of curiosity, creativity, and career opportunity took centre stage on 8 May 2025 as Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) organised its Final Year Project (FYP) Poster Competition and Industry Interaction Day for the February 2025 trimester at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The event transformed the university’s multipurpose hall into a vibrant platform for research discovery and industry engagement, underscoring the university’s commitment to producing practice-ready graduates.

The event was officially opened by Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training of LKC FES. In his speech, he lauded the initiative as a platform not only for academic excellence but also for sharpening communication skills and professional confidence. “We organised this competition to help our students enhance their communication abilities, particularly in articulating their research in a concise and compelling manner,” he stated.

Held alongside the poster competition, the Industry Interaction Day brought together 24 organisations from engineering, construction, consultancy, and manufacturing sectors. Companies such as Dindings Tyson Sdn Bhd, Genting Malaysia Berhad, H&H First Consultancy Group Sdn Bhd, Neway Valve (M) Sdn Bhd, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (S) Pte Ltd, Tech-Store Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Unit Concept Sdn Bhd, Advancecon Holdings Berhad, Chin Hin Group Berhad, DCAP Sdn Bhd, GrandPine Capital Sdn Bhd, Infinite EPC Sdn Bhd, Innovergy Engineering Sdn Bhd, Makna Setia Sdn Bhd, Salcon Engineering Berhad, Stampede Solution Sdn Bhd, Tianma Precision Sdn Bhd, Worldline International, and YTL Cement set up interactive booths to connect with students, provide career advice, and accept résumé submissions. Some even conducted on-the-spot interviews.

The event was also made possible through the generous support of its sponsored industry partners. These included Dindings Tyson, Resorts World Genting, H&H First Consultancy Group, Neway, Tech-Store, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering, Unit Concept, Advancecon, Chin Hin, DCAP, GrandPine Capital, Infinite, Innovergy, Makna Setia, Salcon, Stampede Solution, Worldline, YTL Cement, and Tianma Precision. Their sponsorship was a strong testament to the spirit of collaboration and their investment in future talent.

Across nine tracks, students displayed their final-year research projects through visually engaging posters and concise oral presentations. Their work was evaluated by a panel of 26 judges comprising experts from both academia and industry. Judging criteria focused on clarity, originality, technical depth, presentation quality, and impact. Each track awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze prizes worth RM300, RM200, and RM100 respectively, while a special “Most-liked Poster” award—voted by attendees—offered a RM150 cash prize and certificate.
