UTAR and Shanghai Institute of Technology (SIT) strengthened their longstanding partnership through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on 17 June 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus.
The documents were signed by UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and SIT Vice President Prof Dr Mao Xiangdong. The event marked a renewed commitment by both institutions to further enhance academic collaboration, including student exchange programmes, staff development, and joint research initiatives.
Prof Dato’ Ewe highlighted UTAR’s extensive global network, including partnerships with over 800 universities and corporations, with strong ties to institutions in China. He noted that in 2023 and 2024, 140 UTAR students completed internships in 18 cities in China, while companies such as Huawei and Alibaba actively recruited UTAR graduates. “This collaboration will enhance academic and cultural exchanges, equipping students with global perspectives,” he said.

Prof Mao outlined the university’s multidisciplinary programmes spanning undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies. Emphasising practical learning and international exposure, he expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential for student mobility and joint research. Prof Mao also shared his personal connection to Malaysia and envisioned expanded cooperation through summer programmes and faculty exchanges.

The MoU and MoA build upon years of mutual collaboration, underscoring a shared vision to foster internationalisation and academic excellence through joint research, talent development, and academic exchanges.
