UTAR and Yangjiang Polytechnic exchange MoU to forge academic partnership

The signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UTAR, and Yangjiang Polytechnic, China, took place on 16 June 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The MoU signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Yangjiang Polytechnic Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Mr Liang Rongxuan.

The MoU aimed to foster goodwill, strengthen cultural ties, and enhance academic exchange through collaborative initiatives such as faculty and student exchanges, sharing of teaching materials, joint research projects, and cultural activities like seminars and workshops.

Present at the event were Yangjiang Polytechnic Director of the Academic Affairs Office Prof Du Jingfeng, Director of the Department of Food and Environmental Engineering Ms Lin Xiaojie, Director of the Department of Tourism Management Assoc Prof Xie Hong, Deputy Director of College Office Assoc Prof Liu Weimin, and Deputy Director of the Department of Information Engineering Prof Chen Debao.

UTAR Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Centre for International Student Recruitment and Education Collaboration (CISREC) Director Mr Lee Choy Fong, CISREC Senior Assistant Manager Ms Ng Beng Mui and OIA Senior Assistant Manager Ms Wang Yiling were present as well.

Prof Dato’ Ewe expressed, “Beyond academic collaboration, we will also enhance mutual understanding and promote cultural mutual learning and integration between our two institutions through exchanges in culture, arts, and traditional studies. We believe that, through our joint efforts, this partnership will not only elevate the teaching and research standards of both universities but also provide broader development platforms for faculty and students. Furthermore, it will advance resource sharing and collaborative development in the education sector between Malaysia and China.”

Mr Liang emphasised, “As a local polytechnic, Yangjiang Polytechnic specialises in cultivating skilled professionals. Conversely, UTAR, with its comprehensive education system spanning undergraduate to postgraduate levels, is at the forefront of industry-education integration and humanities development—aspects well worth our in-depth study. We eagerly anticipate strengthened cooperation in the future.” At the end of his speech, Mr Liang warmly invited UTAR to visit Yangjiang Polytechnic to promote mutual visits and exchanges, thereby laying a solid groundwork for future collaboration.”
