UTAR partners with Prokon Software Limited to enhance engineering education

UTAR and Prokon Software Limited signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 17 February 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The MoU aims strengthen academic-industry collaboration by integrating Prokon’s engineering software solutions into UTAR’s academic and research programmes.

The signatories were UTAR President Ir Prof Dato’ Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Prokon Software Limited Director of Operations Mr Leon Van Rensburg. The signing was witnessed by UTAR Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) academic Assoc Prof Ir Ts Dr Yew Ming Kun, UTAR Vice President (Internationalisation and Academic Development) Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, Innobim Consultancy Sdn Bhd (InnoBIM) Business Development Manager Mr Yap Chiu Peng Alvin and InnoBIM Assistant Sales Manager Mr Andrew Lim Sze Kai.

Also present at the event were UTAR LKC FES Dean Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, LKC FES Deputy Dean (Student Development and Industrial Training) Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Office of International Affairs (OIA) Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, LKC FES Department of Civil Engineering Head Ir Ts Dr Yip Chun Chieh and OIA Assistant Manager Ms Goo Yi Qun.

Prof Dato’ Ewe said, “Through this MoU, we will work together on joint research and development, paving the way for new discoveries and innovative solutions in the fields of civil engineering and related disciplines. This collaboration will also provide our students and faculty with valuable opportunities to engage in cutting-edge projects and remain at the forefront of technological advancement.”

Mr Leon Van Rensburg expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasising Prokon Software Limited’s commitment to supporting UTAR in developing skilled graduates proficient in engineering software applications. He also acknowledged UTAR’s role in fostering industry collaborations that bridge the gap between academia and real-world engineering challenges.

In the previous collaboration, Prokon Software Limited generously donated its PROKON software to UTAR for educational purposes. This contribution has provided students and the faculty with access to industry-standard tools, enhancing their learning experience and practical application of engineering concepts.

UTAR expresses its sincere appreciation to Prokon Software Limited for its valuable contribution.
