UTAR hosts delegates from Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Semarang, Indonesia

UTAR recently welcomed a distinguished delegation from Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) Semarang, Indonesia, for an academic exchange session on 20 February 2025. Hosted at UTAR Sungai Long Campus, the visit aimed to foster collaboration between the two institutions in research, academic benchmarking, and internationalisation efforts.

The delegation included UNTAG Chairman of the Senate Prof Suparjo MP, Head of the Master of Management Programme Prof Gita Sugiyarti MSi, Secretary of the Master of Management Programme Dr Sri Suyati, Head of Faculty Quality Assurance Dr Nurchayati MSi, 1st Vice Dean Faculty of Economics and Business Administration Dr Hikmah, Head of Faculty Research Section Dr Tri Widayati, Head of International Office and Mobility (IOM) Prof Dr Ars Eko Nursanty, ST., MT, and Head of Publications and Admissions Dr Aris Mardiyono MM.

The event commenced with a warm welcome remark from Sr Dr Chin Hon Choong, the deputy dean of the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes. UNTAG’s delegation was led by its Chairman of the Senate, Prof Suparjo MP, who delivered a speech highlighting the university’s commitment to fostering global academic partnerships.

A series of insightful presentations followed, covering key areas of collaboration. Office of International Affairs Deputy Director Assoc Prof Dr Chen, I-Chi, shared UTAR’s global initiatives and strategies for international academic cooperation through Microsoft Teams at UTAR Kampar Campus. Next, Dr Chin provided an overview of UTAR’s postgraduate curriculum, quality assurance, and accreditation processes. He also discussed research strategies and opportunities for faculty and student collaboration.

The visit also featured discussions on various collaborative opportunities, including joint research initiatives, staff exchange programmes, joint supervision studies, research attachments, and other potential academic collaborations. The event concluded with a closing remark by UTAR Vice President (R&D and Commercialisation) Prof Ts Dr Faidz bin Abd Rahman, who emphasised the importance of international collaboration in higher education. A virtual souvenir exchange and a group photo commemorated the occasion.

The visit marked a significant step in strengthening the academic partnership between UTAR and UNTAG, laying the groundwork for future joint initiatives that will benefit students, researchers, and faculty members from both institutions.
