Physiotherapy White Coat Ceremony 2025

The Physiotherapy White Coat Ceremony was held at UTAR Sungai Long Campus on 28 February 2025. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the journey of Physiotherapy students as they officially transitioned into the professional healthcare world. The event was attended by approximately 100 students, academics, and staff.

Among the guests were Pegawai Pemulihan Perubatan from Hospital Sungai Buloh Mr Sathishwaran Kuppysamy, M. Kandiah Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MK FMHS) Dean Prof Dr Thong Meow Keong, MK FMHS Department of Physiotherapy Head Dr Muhammad Noh Zulfikri bin Mohd Jamali, MK FMHS Clinical Physiotherapy Programme Head Ms Siti Hazirah binti Samsuri and Physiotherapy White Coat Ceremony 2025 Chairperson Ms Nadia Safirah binti Rusli.

The White Coat Ceremony featured an inspiring speech by Mr Sathishwaran. He introduced Hospital Sungai Buloh and Pusat Kawalan Kusta Negara, sharing his valuable experiences working in these institutions.

Mr Sathishwaran provided insights into a day in the life of a physiotherapist, highlighting the crucial role they play in patient rehabilitation and recovery. He also discussed the challenges and rewards of the profession, emphasising the dedication and perseverance required to excel in the field.

Addressing the students, he advised, “Stay passionate, keep learning, and always prioritise your patient’s well-being.” He also reminded them, “Always respect your lecturers, professors, and mentors! Their guidance and knowledge have shaped your journey; without them, you wouldn’t be where you are today!”

Concluding his speech, he congratulated the students and said, “Dear students, congratulations on receiving your white coat. Wear it with pride and carry it with care.”

Prof Thong emphasised the vital role of physiotherapy in healthcare, not just in treatment but also in prevention and rehabilitation. He highlighted the dedication of the Physiotherapy Committee and the faculty in shaping future professionals. Reflecting on the symbolic power of the White Coat, he noted its evolving perception, stating, “The White Coat is a very strong symbol. It’s a symbol of the pride that we wear on us, and also a symbol of the work that we do that is highly respected by members of the community.” He also underscored the importance of teamwork in healthcare, affirming that “Physiotherapy is always a very important part of the team in healthcare.” Encouraging students to pursue higher studies to advance the profession, he expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Your work is as important as anyone else.”

Following the speeches, the ceremony continued with the distribution of white coats to the students. After donning their white coats, the students solemnly recited the Oath of Commitment, pledging to uphold the values and responsibilities of the physiotherapy profession.
