His talk focused on preparing students for a rapidly evolving employment landscape shaped by digital disruption, automation, and emerging technologies. Drawing attention to trends such as the rise of Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and Quantum Computing, he discussed the shift from traditional labour roles to knowledge-based careers, urging students to embrace lifelong learning and adaptability.
He also presented a wide spectrum of future professions, including Genetic Engineer, Drone Controller, Visual Ergonomist, and Machine Learning Engineer, encouraging students to prepare for industries that increasingly reward critical thinking, creativity, and interdisciplinary knowledge. Citing the progression of Silicon Valley and the advancement of AI tools like OpenAI’s Sora, he emphasised the value of a growth mindset and emotional intelligence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

With digital transformation accelerating across all sectors, he reminded students that adaptability and continuous learning are among the most essential skills for future success, alongside mental balance and emotional intelligence. He added that soft skills — including problem-solving, working under pressure, independence, strong communication, and a genuine willingness to learn — are equally critical in securing employment and advancing professionally.

He offered a clear summary of how graduates can thrive in this changing world — by embracing continuous learning, cultivating emotional and mental resilience, and maintaining physical well-being. He introduced the concept of Adversity Quotient (AQ) — the ability to endure and grow through life’s challenges — and urged students to take care of their health by exercising regularly, sleeping well, and managing stress through positive habits. Prof Dato’ Ewe also explained how the brain’s “happy chemicals”, like dopamine and serotonin support motivation and emotional balance, vital for both personal and professional successes.
In addition to future trends, Prof Dato’ Ewe addressed practical aspects of employability. He outlined qualities employers seek — personality, teamwork, communication, academic records, and expected salary — and cautioned against common pitfalls such as unrealistic expectations, poor command of English, and weak attitude. He provided useful tips for crafting effective CVs, preparing for interviews, and understanding industry expectations.

He encouraged students to reflect deeply on personal goals — whether to pursue further studies, join a large or small company, or choose stability or flexibility — and to view each decision as part of a longer journey of growth and self-discovery.

Concluding the session, Prof Dato’ Ewe quoted Stephen Covey’s reflection on the meaning of life: “To learn, to live, to love, and to leave a legacy” — a message that resonated deeply with the graduating cohort.
