MoU signing between UTAR and HUATEC

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held between UTAR and Beijing Huatec Information Technology Co., Ltd. (HUATEC), China, on 24 April 2025 at UTAR Sungai Long Campus. The signatories were UTAR Vice President (Internationalisation and Academic Development)  Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and HUATEC Executive Vice President Ms Liang Shu.

The MoU aims to foster educational cooperation through the establishment of joint initiatives such as student and staff exchanges, shared research and training programmes, and the development of a collaborative educational platform known as the “JINGSHI INSTITUTE.” The collaboration includes the creation of Training and Service Bases at UTAR to support international education, hardware technology platforms for professional training, and innovative research projects to enhance academic programmes and staff development, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

Following the MoU signing, a discussion session was held involving representatives from Hezhou University, HUATEC, and UTAR to explore the development of a “4+0 Sino-foreign collaboration project”. This initiative aims to allow Chinese students to complete a UTAR degree entirely in China under a joint academic framework. The discussions focused on aligning academic standards, curriculum structure, and quality assurance processes to ensure the successful implementation of this tri-party collaboration. The engagement highlighted the shared commitment of all institutions to expand cross-border educational opportunities and foster a mutually beneficial academic ecosystem.

Present at the event were HUATEC International Education Technology Branch General Manager Ms Liu Tianjiao, Operations Division General Manager Mr Li Junjie, and Malaysia Project Manager Mr Yang Runqing. The visiting delegation from Hezhou University included Vice President Prof Zhu Qixian; School of Architecture and Electrical Engineering Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Xu Shengcai, School of Artificial Intelligence Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Wang Hui, and School of Foreign Languages (School of International Education) Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Wu Feng.
